Axon ALC Fly Reel — large arbor, Teflon drag
The reliable entry point — the first reel that won't hold you back.
Axon ALC: Reliability and power, no compromise, to tame your catch.
The Axon ALC reel is built for anglers who want reliability and power at an affordable price. Whether you're after big river trout or hard-fighting salmon, its smooth drag system and rugged construction give you full control during the most intense fights. It's the perfect tool to step up your game with confidence, without weighing down your rod or your budget.
Aluminum construction: An alloy that strikes the perfect balance between light weight (for long days on the water) and durability (to take knocks).
Smooth drag: Advanced design with a Teflon disc drag system to protect your leaders during blistering runs.
Large Arbor design: Delivers ultra-fast line retrieval and dramatically reduces line memory (coiling).
Precision mechanics: Fitted with 2 + 1 ball bearings and a direct 1:1 gear ratio for a smooth, consistent retrieve.
Ambidextrous: Converts quickly and easily for left- or right-hand retrieve.
Size 5/6 (Versatile): Ideal for trout, smallmouth bass and walleye.
Size 7/8 (Powerful): Perfect for salmon, pike, large landlocked salmon, or bass fishing with big poppers.
Size 9/10 (Extreme): Built for musky, very large salmon, or chasing saltwater species.
| Size | Spool diameter | Backing capacity | Weight |
| 5/6 | 75 mm | 100 yards | 135 g |
| 7/8 | 85 mm | 150 yards | 153 g |
| 9/10 | 105 mm | 150 yards | 223 g |
Included with your purchase:
The Axon ALC fly reel
A neoprene protective pouch for safe transport
A one-year warranty
Ideal pairing: Match the 5/6 with the Axon Perception line (WF-5-F or WF-6-F) for an all-purpose setup, or the Windcutter if you often fish in wind. For the 7/8, go with the Windcutter WF-7-F/WF-8-F or the Outbound Short for larger flies. See all our Axon fly lines.
Protecting the drag: Always get in the habit of fully backing off your drag tension after a day on the water. This avoids compressing the Teflon discs unnecessarily and extends the life of the system.
Easy maintenance: A simple freshwater rinse after your outings (especially if the spool has touched sand or salt water) will keep the internal mechanism smooth for years.
The reel is the heart of your system. Here is what mounts onto it:
- Backing — Loaded first, directly onto the arbor. It gives you your line reserve and fills the reel for fast retrieval. See our Dacron backings.
- Fly line — Connects to the backing. It is what loads your rod and carries the fly. Choose your Axon fly line based on your rod and target species.
- Tapered leader — Attaches to the front of the fly line and delivers the presentation. Explore our tapered nylon leaders.
- Fly rod — Your reel size should match your rod's line weight. Discover our high-performance rods.
